Job Summary/Purpose: The Department of Otolarnygology is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to participate in outpatient pediatric otolaryngology care by evaluating new and follow-up patients, performing histories and physical exams, ordering of ancillary tests, performing minor procedures (such as cerumen disimpaction, myringotomy if needed), patient education, phone calls for prescriptions/lab results and coordination of care. Improve access to care for otology and vestibular patients, both new patient evaluation and established patient follow up. Perform as liaison between outpatient nurses and other health care professional implicated in care of patients including outside APP, Physicians, PTs. Become an identifiable expert from the otology and vestibular division who will return patient/parent telephone calls and answer their questions in a timely manner.

Minimum Training and Education: Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of SC or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the National Board of Medical. Graduation from an accredited school. Training on the job is expected.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

35% - Providing consultative evaluative critical care and procedural services within your scope of practice in our various outpatient clinics.

25% - Providing support to the attending and resident physicians.

30% - Develop an individual practice template and have an active clinic schedule to cover same day referrals as well as see scheduled patients.

5% - Participation in the development of protocols and guide-lines aimed at improving care services as needed.

5% - Participation in quality improvement processes in collaboration with nurses, physicians and other staff members as needed.

5% - Participation in educational activities aimed at improving delivery of patient care. Potential to precept MUSC PA/NP students in their clinical rotations.

Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.  Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors.  Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.  Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
