Job Summary/Purpose:

The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist provides distributive and clinical pharmacy services to the outpatients and visitors of the Medical University Hospitals and Clinics. Additional responsibilities include addressing the needs of nursing, medical personnel, and members of the Specialty Pharmacy Call Center and clinics, counsels patients and health care professionals by providing general and patient specific drug information; ensures timely and medically appropriate dispensing. The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist participates in the patient management and quality programs of the Specialty Pharmacies where applicable. The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist is required to become knowledgeable in the Specialty Pharmacy Policies and ensure all are followed in our operational sites to support URAC and ACHC standards. The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist is required to become knowledgeable in the processes within our Specialty Mail Order Pharmacy and Hollings Cancer Center Retail Pharmacy. The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist may staff at both the Mail Order and Hollings Cancer Center Retail Pharmacy sites. The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist will be responsible for supporting the Pharmacists in Charge of our operational site in staff, workflow, and inventory management.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the Oncology arena working collaboratively with other members of the care team, providing patient education, navigating the complexities of insurance coverage, and contributing to the overall growth and operations of the specialty pharmacy program. This position reports to the Clinical Coordinator for the Specialty Pharmacy Program and ultimately to the Chief Pharmacy Officer for MUSC Health – Charleston.

Minimum Training and Education: Doctor of Pharmacy or a Bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Completion of a pharmacy residency preferred.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
