Job Summary/Purpose: The Polysomnographic technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. The technologist should be registered in sleep technology or be eligible to sit for the registry exam within 6 months of hire. The Medical University of South Sleep Center has two accredited sleep labs located in Charleston at the main hospital and off campus in North Charleston. Both are accredited by The American Academy of Sleep Medicine. We are looking for strong dedicated people to join our team with a passion to deliver the best possible healthcare and education to our patients. We provide testing for all ages(0-99+).

Minimum Training and Education: Minimum qualifications include graduation from a program approved by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) or a successor accrediting authority, credentialed by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, and a minimum of one year of experience. Extensive knowledge of polysomnography principles, practices and clinical applications; ability to act quickly and competently in emergency situations. PSGT III requirements must be completed and maintained in order to remain in the PSG III classification.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Credentialed by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider required.

(Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
