Job Summary: To support the goals set by the Chair of the Dept of Pathology and the Director of the Informatics division in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine including assessing, designing, planning, implementing, monitoring and maintaining applications and web services. To enhance internal and outreach clinical operations by supporting pathology faculty and residents and staff's interaction with clinical and anatomic pathology data in support of MUSC’s academic, research, and healthcare missions.

 

Job Duties: 

  • 30% - Contribute to projects by improving underlying software, web applications and services: • Performing research and analysis for the project. • Supplementing and enhancing existing software. • Monitoring and evaluating performance of existing software. • Modifying existing code and developing new code. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Contribute to projects by developing databases and web interfaces: • Developing domain expertise in underlying data sources. • Defining and refining data models. • Developing and refining web-based user interfaces. • Defining and refining common queries. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Contribute to projects by documenting and testing the system: • Producing and maintaining technical documentation. • Implementing unit and functional testing. • Troubleshooting and maintaining applications. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Support Pathology and Laboratory Medicine owned and maintained physical and virtual servers including Docker containers. • Assist with planning and implementation to support development of application and sevices for both test and production services. • Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Contribute to research projects by: • assisting with drafting manuscripts for publication • presenting research at conferences • engaging in other activities related to research dissemination. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Continue personal development of modern database and programming techniques - (Essential)
  • 5% - Contribute to internal as well as external grant funding applications by: • contributing technical expertise • contributing statistical knowledge - (Essential)
  • 5% - Support medical student, resident and fellow training in informatics • Prepare and present lectures on programming topics • Assist with medical student, resident and fellow informatics projects - (Essential)

 

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: 

 

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A high school diploma and four years work experience in the modification and maintenance of systems programming, the design and development of system software or the testing and debugging of system software. An associate's degree or a bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the required work experience.
