Job Summary/Purpose:  Testing patients throughout the state of South Carolina for COVID-19. The COVID-19 Testing Clinician reports to the Staffing Coordinator Under the direct supervision of the COVID-19 Testing Site lead, the COVID-19 Testing Clinician performs multi-skilled activities to support the safe and efficient testing of patients for COVID-19. The COVID-19 Testing Clinician is expected to perform nasopharyngeal (PCR) swabbing, nasal swabbing, blood draws for antibody testing, antigen testing, and other testing methodologies as directed. Additional non-clinical roles of which are pertinent to successful testing site operations may be assigned (e.g. traffic directing, patient registration, etc.) The COVID-19 Testing Clinician will be provided with all appropriate training and safety protocols.

Minimum Training and Education:  High school diploma or equivalent and meet the requirements for one or more of the following:

•Patient Care Technician 

•Certified Medical Assistant: Certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

•Certified Nursing Assistant

•Licensed Practical Nurse

•Registered Nurse

•EMT Certification

•Paramedic Certification

•Nursing Student: Currently enrolled in an accredited institution with the completion of nursing fundamentals course

Basic computer skills required. Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Employee must possess considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of complex therapeutic procedures; and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Additional Requirements (Specific to COVID-19):

•While wearing all necessary PPE for safety, the COVID-19 Testing Clinician must be willing to test and interact with potentially COVID-positive patients.

•Willingness to abide by all MUSC PPE and safety protocols

•Must be able to wear an N-95 mask for periods possibly exceeding two hours

•Must be willing to commute distances up to or exceeding two hours – with a hotel and mileage reimbursement provided when applicable

•Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: 

Active SC (compact state) license/Certification/Registration:

•Patient Care Technician 

•Certified Medical Assistant: Certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

•Certified Nursing Assistant

•Licensed Practical Nurse

•Registered Nurse

•EMT Certification

•Paramedic Certification

•Nursing Student: Currently enrolled in an accredited institution with the completion of nursing fundamentals course

 

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
