Job Summary: The Assistant Dean for Curriculum provides college-level leadership, management, and oversight of PharmD curriculum and other educational initiatives of the College. The Assistant Dean for Curriculum will oversee all activities involving the creation, design, maintenance, and revision of curriculum, courses, sequences of courses and programs of study offered by or within the College and support faculty, staff, and students in the delivery of that curriculum. Ensure all academic program curriculum meet or exceed accreditation standards published by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and other relevant agencies. The Assistant Dean for Curriculum in the College of Pharmacy is a champion in the area of curricular innovation. PharmD, PhD or EdD is required.

 

Job Duties: 

  • 70% - Administrative Responsibilities Develops and implement policies, procedures and programs for achieving the educational mission of the college. Work with faculty, educational technology experts and instructional design experts to develop a strategic academic plan that ensures the college is teaching the required curriculum. Works with the Assistant Dean for Assessment using assessment data to drive educational strategies. Works collaboratively with subject matter experts to manage instructional design projects from inception to completion by developing instructional strategies, course materials, assessment techniques, integration of instructional technologies, and best practices. Facilitates course revision and quality assurance testing of all course materials before the course is made available to students. Consults with faculty on course revision and assists in updating course content based on feedback and best practices. Works closely with faculty, educational technology specialist, and subject matter experts to design, develop, and support high-quality hybrid, online, and/or face-to-face courses. Facilitates professional development activities for faculty related to development and delivery of courses. Ensures effective educational practices for diverse student populations and use of instructional technology in face-to-face, hybrid and on-line learning environments. Participates in and encourages educational research for continuous improvement of the curriculum. Scholarly responsibilities include an active research agenda yielding regular publications, professional presentations and/or external grant proposals. Directs all curriculum activities for the college and supervises the educational technology specialist and curriculum coordinator. Manage curricular budget and develop, administer, implement, and monitor all school policies and procedures related to the curriculum. Provides expertise to faculty by combining learning theory, design practices, and instructional technologies for the development of instructional pedagogies and effective teaching for the and learning spaces, both physical and virtual, through one-on-one and group sessions. Provides leadership, coordination, and support of implementation and ongoing education, both physical and virtual, of university wide instructional technology systems to deliver these resources to the COP in an effective and efficient manner. Leads the optimal delivery of the professional degree program through coordinating the availability of elective course offerings, appropriate classroom space, laboratory facilities and specialized medical or laboratory equipment. Provides oversight and administration of Curriculum Committee. Serves as the liaison between the College and University units involved with academic affairs (e.g., Instructional Technology & Faculty Resources (ITFR), Office of Inter-Professional Initiatives (OII) etc.) Coordinates the College’s dual degree programming. With other members of the administrative team, participates in collaborative activities furthering academic goals (to include aspects of recruitment, admissions, orientation, faculty-student mentoring, development and enhancement of instructional activities and programs, assessment, exploration of dual degree programming, fostering relationships for external funding to support academic activities, and integration of pharmacy students with those of other health professions) Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean. - (Essential)
