Job Summary: The Department of Public Health Sciences is seeking a candidate to solve computer problems throughout the DCU with minimal supervision. Provide technical consulting and training to users in the selection, installation and application of computational systems and software. Provide suggestions to improve existing services.

 

Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 6: $41,778.00 - $59,538.50 - $77,299.00 (min - mid - max)

 

Job Duties: 

  • 35% - Troubleshooting; function as first responder for end user problems in the Data Coordination Unit (hereafter referred to as DCU). Support workstations, in combined networks, Windows and Linux. Consult with users to identify problems and find solutions - Provide immediate response to equipment failures and handle both hardware and software questions and problems. Required knowledge/skill of network services and data communications. Required knowledge/skill of office automation systems, information processing operations, fiber optics, and micro/minicomputer hardware/software as they relate to the latest trends in voice and data networks connectivity. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Install workstations, network cards and any peripherals. First point of contact for all equipment and software malfunctions. Consult with vendors if necessary, to resolve problem. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Assist IT Manager/supervisor with projects such as installation and maintenance of new file servers, web servers, etc. Install software and updates on server for deployment to workstations. Maintain documentation. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Maintain accurate hardware and software inventory. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist IT Manager/supervisor in coordination of DCU network management tasks. Responsible for tracking network usage and server backups. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist IT Manager/supervisor with network security. Safeguard systems from internal and external operations that may affect data. Diagnose and remove viruses and other malware. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Stay abreast of IT changes and be familiar with MUSC systems. - (Essential)

 

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field and one year experience in information technology systems or related areas. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

(Continuous) Ability to hear and/or understand conversations. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to work in dusty areas.
