Job Summary: The Office of Grants and Contracts Accounting (GCA) is seeking a Grant Administrator II (working title Cost Accountant) for its Cost Accounting functional area. GCA has the primary responsibilities for compliance and post-award administration of the University’s sponsored research grants and contracts.

Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 7: $50,834.00 - $72,441.50 - $94,049.00 (min - mid - max)

Job Duties: 

  • 30% - Identify and manage University Service/Core/Recharge centers. • Conduct training on proposal preparations and center management in accordance with federal and MUSC policies and procedures • Maintain complete, current, and accurate center files • Assist with Internal and Institutional audit - (Essential)
  • 30% - Conduct subrecipient/subawardee monitoring activities. • Conduct compliance reviews • Conduct desk reviews/audits • Assist Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) with pre- award risk assessment • Assist with Internal and Institutional audit • Assist with National Science Foundation (NSF) and Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Award (SEFA) reports - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist with Institutional F&A rate proposal • Develop and maintain skills in utilizing the Comprehensive Rate Information System (CRIS®) • Increase knowledge and familiarization with Institutional financial information as relates to proposal preparations • Regularly attend meetings and training sessions - (Essential)
  • 10% - Actively participate and support GCA initiatives • Serve as GCA Local Lean Champion • Participate actively in the implementation of new ERP • Provide backup support to team members - (Essential)
  • 10% - Maintain the University’s Cost Accounting Standards Disclosure Statement (DS2) • Ensure the DS2 reflects the University’s most current accounting policies and procedures to provide consistency in reporting • Ensure the staff is kept abreast of changes to accounting policies and procedures to maintain compliance • Ensure revisions to DS2 are submitted to Federal Government in a timely manner. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Attend/generate/conduct MUSC and external training - (Essential)

 

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or the social sciences and four years experience in contracts and grant administration activities.

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: 

4+ years accounting experience
Strong analytical experience
Experience preparing and working with budgets
Experience preparing Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Rate proposals
Experience using Comprehensive Rate Information System (CRIS®)
Higher education and/or not‐for‐profit experience
Effective training techniques
Experience conducting audits.
Employee is expected to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, especially salaries of
University personnel. Requires good eye/hand coordination, ability to hear & speak clearly, express information concisely, analyze data and formulate ideas logically orally and in writing.
Able to travel to various departments throughout the University.
Ability to interpret Federal, State and Institutional policies and procedures dealing with grants and contracts requirements.
Maturity and the ability to gather data, analyze facts and prepare reports.
Must be able to communicate effectively with government, institutional and program officials.
Skilled in the use of mathematical concepts.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft software, especially electronic spreadsheets.
Ability to prepare material and train departmental and GCA staff.
