UNIV - Research Specialist II - Department of Medicine: Division of Rheumatology Charleston, SC
We are seeking a candidate who will assist our ongoing research directed toward understanding mechanisms of inflammation in lupus. The candidate will perform supervised work on several projects using mice, human samples, and cultured cells. General duties will include working with cell lines and with cells from genetically altered mice, assisting in collection, processing and cataloging tissue samples from mice, performing various biologic analyses (gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry, qRT-PCR, etc.), and participating in laboratory discussions, organization and regulatory procedures. Maintenance of up-to-date, comprehensive and neat laboratory records will be required. Knowledge about small-volume fluid handling, tissue culture/sterile technique, and general cell, molecular, biochemical, and/or immunological methods is essential, and experience in these areas is desired. The candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, a talent for managing diverse tasks, and an ability to work well in a team.

The Unit Secretary reports to the Nurse Manager. Under indirect supervision, the Unit Secretary handles all incoming and outgoing communications and is responsible for accurately performing all clerical duties for the clinical unit. This position processes physicians’ orders, maintains unit charts, records, supplies and equipment. This role is the direct line of communication between the patient care unit and support services. The Unit Secretary also assists in orienting and training new personnel.

The Endoscopy Procedure Registered Nurse II on the Endoscopy Unit reports to the Nurse Manager. The Procedure RN assist with general endoscopy procedures, such as colonoscopy and EGD.
