The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist – Trauma Services vacancies.

Trauma Staff Specialist, Royal Hobart Hospital

The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is located in the beautiful waterfront city of Hobart, framed between the Derwent River and Kunanyi / Mt Wellington. The RHH is Tasmania’s major trauma centre and is designated as a Level 6 facility in the Tasmanian Role Delineation Framework. This means that RHH is required to provide the full spectrum of care for injured patients, spanning multiple specialties across all phases of care, including pre-hospital, emergency, intensive care, surgery, medicine, and rehabilitation. As a Level 6 facility, RHH sees over 260 major traumas per year.

From February 2023, all major trauma will be admitted under a single bedcard which will be responsible for the multidisciplinary management of injured patients. The trauma service will aim to employ a model of care that ensures timely, efficient and effective care for all patients with significant injuries.

The Trauma Service will be a consultant led unit. Trauma staff specialists will supervise a team comprising senior registrars, registrars and resident medical officers from a variety of professional backgrounds. Medical staff at all levels will benefit from the opportunity to work closely with the Clinical Nurse Consultant – Trauma and experienced Trauma Case Managers, who champion a holistic approach to care and continuity throughout each patient’s injury journey. Trauma staff specialists will provide expert medical advice to other inpatient teams and will represent the trauma service at multidisciplinary meetings for complex patients. Additional quality improvement, educational, research and administrative activities will be negotiated as part of each staff specialist’s clinical support portfolio.

We are entering an exciting period of trauma system development in Tasmania. We aim to create a diverse and inclusive team, welcoming trauma practitioners from a variety of clinical backgrounds.

If you are interested in joining our team as a staff specialist, please see the additional statement of duties and associated documents.
