The Role:

We are looking for passionate and caring Registered nurses who are wanting to make a difference in our aged care patient/clients lives. With a strong focus toward continuously improving quality of nursing care provided and ensuring patients and their families are involved in the planning and implementation of care. The facility caters for emergency, acute and residential aged care and is an excellent opportunity to extend your practice across a variety of service provision.

We also offer a 6-month Emergency Department Transition Program (EDTP) for those nurses who are new to ED. The aim of the program is to provide a supported, high quality, relevant, fast-track program, that gives staff the tools to work at a competent level within an Emergency Department. On successful completion of all components of the EDTP, those staff who enrol or are enrolled in the University of Tasmania Graduate Certificate of Emergency Nursing, can apply to UTAS for one unit of credit (there are 4 units in the post-graduate certificate).

With a population of approximately 1600 people King Island is based in the Bass Strait between Victoria and northwest coast of Tasmania, and is well-known for world class cheese, fresh seafood, very clean air, and incredible surfing and golf.  The Hospital is located in Currie which is King Island's largest town and administrative centre.

King Island Hospital & Health Centre has four acute care beds, a palliative room with adjoining family room, two emergency rooms, treatment room, outpatients consulting rooms, 14 permanent residential aged care beds providing permanent and respite care.

Details of Appointment

Permanent full-time shift-worker position working 76 hours per fortnight commencing from when you are available to join the team

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary: $75,902 - $102,908 pro rata per annum + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • District Allowances of up to $2385.25 per annum for a family 
  • Remote and Rural Professional Development Allowance of $3,614 per annum and an additional salary allowance of 10%
  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qualification type
  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $500 per annum
  • Access to the Grade 4 salary range $90,293 - $96,428 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023

  1. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
  1. crimes of violence
  2. sex related offences
  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
  1. Identification check
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

*As required by the Commonwealth Home Support Program and/or the Aged Care Act, occupants of this role are required to undertake a conviction check assessment every three years.
