Job description:

Provide quality dental services, mentoring and support in Tasmanian Oral Health Service, North Tasmania (Launceston).

The Team:

Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) is a division of the Tasmania Department of Health that provides public dental care services to eligible Tasmanians. Its primary goal is to improve oral health outcomes across the state, particularly for vulnerable and disadvantaged populations.

OHST is a team of approximately 300 people including dentists, oral health therapists, dental prosthetists, technicians, dental assistants and administrative staff. Care is provided from 33 clinics around Tasmania. Adult services are predominantly provided from 6 major centres located in Hobart (New Town), Clarence, Glenorchy, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie as well as the 3 Special Care dental Units (located within hospital precincts). Child and Adolescent Services are provided predominantly from 23 community clinics which are either located in a community health centre or are a stand-alone clinic.

The Role:

  • Based in Northern Tasmania (Launceston and surrounds)
  • Provide dental services, in line with the policies, protocols, and guidelines of the Agency and with Oral Health Service Tasmania’s (OHST), to eligible adults and children. This may include work in areas such as, but not limited to, community clinics, hospital theatres (to provide treatment under general anaesthetic), Special Care Dental Units, Correctional Services, outreach services.
  • Provide dental care for children whose required care is outside the scope of Dental Therapists and/or Oral Health Therapists and provide support to Dental Therapists and Oral Health Therapists as part of the integrated clinical team.
  • Assist in the development and advancement of the knowledge and professional skills of other staff within the team including Dental Therapists, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Prosthetists, Dental Assistants, Dental Technicians and other Dental Officers, and supervision of undergraduate students or mentoring of new graduate Dentists.

You will need:

  • Sound knowledge of dentistry, including children’s dentistry, at the general dental practitioner level (post-graduate experience of at least 3 years is preferred).
  • A commitment to continuing professional education and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • An up-to-date knowledge and appreciation of the principles of Public Health Dentistry and Minimal Intervention Dentistry with a commitment to improving the safety and quality of services.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing on 13 July 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $129,130 to $202,386 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Dental Officers Agreement 2022.

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
