The Team
The Launceston General Hospital is Tasmania's second largest hospital, and Biomedical Engineering North plays a key role in supporting the delivery of safe and effective healthcare. The team is responsible for maintaining medical equipment used across the hospital and other public healthcare facilities throughout the North and North West of Tasmania. In partnership with Biomedical Engineering North West and South, the service ensures medical devices remain safe, reliable, and available when needed, contributing to better health outcomes for Tasmanians.
The Role
- Maintain the serviceability and technical integrity of all assets, infrastructure and plant equipment comprising the North and North West biomedical inventory. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Calibration, acceptance testing and maintenance.
- Repair, function and safety testing.
- Complying with appropriate documentation and asset tracking protocols.
- Provide specialist technical advice to complex situations, involving a wide range of biomedical equipment and infrastructure, at both the workshop and clinical level.
- Support health professionals in troubleshooting equipment faults including more complex technical matters necessitating the use of significant diagnostic skills in all clinical environments.
You will need
- In-depth technical and high-level working knowledge of medical equipment, computer-controlled systems and devices, and a demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Australian Standards in Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis on Work Health and Safety.
- Demonstrated high level understanding of the principles of instrumentation including recognised experience in electronic fault finding and repair.
- High level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills to support the identification and recommendation of service improvement efficiencies, together with the demonstrated ability to effectively consult and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders including health care workers, business managers, service providers and manufacturers.

Details of appointment
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary
$102,027 to $106,985 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Electronic or Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution or an equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Membership of an appropriate professional engineering institute or body
- Current Driver’s Licence
