North West Maternity Services (NWMS)
Join our dedicated Special Care Nursery (SCN) team, an integral part of the North West Maternity Services, providing specialised care for newborns and their families across Tasmania's North West.
The North West Maternity Services (NWMS) is primarily located at the North West Regional Hospital, with satellite and community-based services delivered across the Mersey Community Hospital, King Island District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and West Coast District Hospital.
Our service provides the full continuum of maternity care, including antenatal clinics, parenting education, pregnancy and postnatal assessment services, a 4-bed birthing suite, 20-bed inpatient maternity ward, an 8-bed Level 4 Special Care Nursery, and extended care midwifery services supporting women following discharge home after birth. We also offer dedicated lactation services and work closely with our allied health colleagues, including social work, women's health physiotherapy, diabetes services and perinatal mental health.
About the opportunity
We are seeking enthusiastic Registered Nurses and/or Registered Midwives to join our Special Care Nursery team.
Working within our Level 4 SCN, you will provide high-quality, family-centred care to newborn infants requiring specialised assessment, monitoring and treatment. You will work collaboratively with paediatricians, midwives, nurses and allied health professionals to deliver safe, evidence-based care while supporting parents and families throughout their baby's admission.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your neonatal nursing skills within a supportive multidisciplinary team committed to excellence in newborn care.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing or midwifery care to infants admitted to the Special Care Nursery.
- Monitor, assess and respond to the changing clinical needs of neonates.
- Support and educate parents and families, encouraging involvement in their baby's care.
- Collaborate with paediatric, maternity and allied health teams to optimise patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in clinical handover.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and ongoing service development.
What we're looking for?
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife.
- A commitment to providing safe, compassionate, family-centred neonatal care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexibility to participate in rotating shift work.
- Previous neonatal or Special Care Nursery experience is desirable but not essential. Applicants with a passion for newborn care and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Details of appointment
- Permanent, full time or part time, shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as you can join us.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary
$80,524 to $109,175 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
- Access to the Grade 4 salary range $102,439- $109,175 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type
Salary Packaging
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
