The Team
Molecular Medicine laboratory is part of THS-Pathology at Royal Hobart Hospital. It provides a comprehensive diagnostic service for infectious diseases, haematology and oncology.
The Role
- Provide high-level professional and operational support to the Director, Pathology RHH, and plan, coordinate and oversee the day-to-day scientific and technical operations of the Molecular Medicine Department.
- Provide professional leadership to scientific and technical staff, including supervision, mentoring, workload coordination, roster management, performance review and competency assessment.
- Lead and contribute to the delivery of complex and critical molecular diagnostic services within a tertiary referral setting, including services delivered at regional, statewide and national levels.
You will need
- Significant experience in the field of Molecular Diagnostics, including an in-depth and detailed level of knowledge and the ability to apply scientific principles across all aspects and disciplines of laboratory molecular diagnostics, typically acquired over extensive relevant professional experience (approximately ten years).
- Detailed knowledge of all aspects of pathology laboratories and how molecular procedures integrate and coordinate with other areas of pathology testing.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including the ability to organise, plan and direct staff and workloads to achieve organisational objectives.

Details of appointment
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary
$148,502 to $150,478 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2025.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Tertiary qualification/program of study in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science or Applied Science or equivalent suitable to the position from a recognised institution
- Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian
Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, The Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of
Australasia or the Australian Society of Cytology
- Where there is no relevant professional body, the essential qualification must be met.
- A relevant post graduate qualification along with at least 8 years specialised experience.
