Duties

• Research, analyse and make recommendations in relation to strategic policy and legislation on a broad range of areas.
• Provide strategic advice and produce high-level written documentation on a broad range of sensitive issues for the Executive, Secretary and Minister, including the development of Cabinet material.
• Develop high-level strategy, plans and reviews informed by national and whole-of-government priority areas, and through targeted consultation with specific communities. 
• Maintain and enhance positive relations and networks with internal and external stakeholders, including other Government agencies at an inter-agency, state and national level, as well as relevant peak bodies and representative groups.
• Actively consider and develop creative solutions to policy issues, and drive policy reform in line with broader government agenda.

Essential Requirements

Pre-Employment Checks 

The Head of the State Service has determined that a person nominated for appointment to this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. Any relevant serious criminal offence or repeated serious offences over any period, which are not mitigated by additional information, may provide grounds for declining an application for appointment. Such offences would include, but are not limited to:

• Arson and fire setting;
• Sexual offences;
• Dishonesty (e.g. theft, burglary, breaking and entering, fraud);
• Deception (e.g. obtaining an advantage by deception);
• Making false declarations;
• Violent crimes and crimes against the person;
• Malicious damage and destruction to property
• Trafficking of narcotic substance;
• False alarm raising. 

Desirable Requirements

Tertiary qualifications in a discipline relevant to policy development or social sciences.
