Job description:

Investigate and review reports on biosecurity, animal welfare and product integrity incidents and execute appropriate response actions.

About the role

As a Principal Biosecurity Officer, you’ll manage a project team to implement biosecurity programs, ensuring animal welfare and product integrity.

  • Undertake regulatory and enforcement activities and compliance investigations.
  • Manage the incidents and possible impacts to minimise the risks of repeated incidents.
  • Assist with policy development, problem definition and solutions development.
  • Maintain effective partnerships with government, community and industry leaders.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).

Pre employment checks

  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.

    The following checks are to be conducted:


    1.    Conviction check in the following conviction areas:

    a)    Crimes of violence
    b)    Sex related offences
    c)    Serious drug offences
    d)    Crimes involving dishonesty
    e)    Serious traffic offences
    f)     Any other offences under the Biosecurity Act 2019, or related legislation 

Essential requirements

  • Satisfactory security clearance as required by Port Authorities.

Desirable requirements

  • A Degree, Advanced Diploma, or equivalent level, in a field relating to biosecurity, agriculture, science or public sector administration as relevant to the nature of the work to be undertaken, as provided by either a university, a vocational education organisation or a registered and accredited training provider.
  • Certificate IV in Government (Investigations), or equivalent.
  • Authorisation under relevant legislation, or capacity to become authorised.
  • Current unrestricted full or provisional motor vehicle driver’s licence.
