Job description:

Work across the State Roads Division, and with civil contractors and industry bodies on high-risk work health and safety (WHS) activities that relate to employee and contractor safety, as well as improved temporary traffic management practices in Tasmania.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a permanent flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) 

Duties

  • Lead the Austroads Harmonisation of Temporary Traffic Management project in Tasmania including working with Austroads, local government, civil contractors and industry bodies to ensure:
    • improved temporary traffic management practices across Tasmania as a whole
    • changes are suitable for the Tasmanian environment and are well understood.
  • Provide specialist advice and reporting to State Roads managers and employees on complex and high-risk WHS activities; and mitigate risk by identifying, developing, implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of safety improvement initiatives.
  • Work with managers and civil contractors to embed a safety focussed culture and ensure WHS compliance on State Roads’ externally facing contracts and projects.
  • Develop and maintain networks with relevant stakeholders including, but not limited to, Austroads, local government, civil contractors and industry bodies.
  • Chair and lead the State Roads WHS Committee and contribute to other relevant groups including representing Tasmania on Austroads Sub Committees.
  • Lead safety related procurements and manage contracts and contractors, such as for WHS site auditing and State Roads’ contractor incident reporting system.
  • Review and maintain a contractor safety incident reporting system and related processes, as well as evaluating data and providing performance reports and statistics on safety incidents.
  • Undertake the day-to-day management of the Safety Operations Officer including task allocation and guidance and managing performance and development.

Desirable Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications in work, health and safety.
  • Experience in a civil construction environment.
  • Current drivers licence.
