Job description:

The Head of Strategic Initiatives is a leadership role responsible for driving and coordinating delivery of Tourism Tasmania's strategic priority initiatives, and Office of the CEO support.

Working in partnership with the CEO and Leadership Team, this role orchestrates execution across the agency—leading execution of agency wide strategic projects, coordinating internal communications and executive engagement, and ensuring agency wide stakeholder coordination. You'll work at the centre of the organisation, removing barriers, driving accountability, and translating strategic vision into measurable results that create real impact across Tourism Tasmania.

What you'll be responsible for

Serving as a strategic partner to the CEO, you will coordinate organisational priorities and ensure effective execution across Tourism Tasmania.

What you'll work on

  • Lead execution of strategic priority projects, driving cross-functional collaboration, ensure alignment of strategic projects, remove obstacles and maintain momentum ensuring delivery on key initiatives.
  • Provide strategic counsel to the CEO on organisational priorities, global tourism industry developments, stakeholder matters and emerging opportunities or challenges, acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Lead internal and executive communications, driving cross-agency alignment and ensuring effective information flow on key initiatives, priorities and organisational updates.
  • Manage and coordinate events, executive briefings and engagements, ensuring the Agency is represented and prepared across industry forums, stakeholder meetings and key events, in coordination with PR & Corporate Communications.
  • Represent Tourism Tasmania at industry and consumer events and stakeholder meetings where needed
  • Manage Tourism Tasmania Board engagement, including meeting preparation, logistics and follow-through on board priorities and decisions.

What you need to have

  1. Proven ability to lead and deliver complex strategic projects involving multiple stakeholders, with demonstrated success in establishing governance, driving collaboration and achieving measurable outcomes in fast-paced environments.
  2. Strategic thinking combined with pragmatic execution - able to see the big picture, identify priorities and translate strategy into action while navigating ambiguity and competing demands.
  3. Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills across diverse groups including industry partners, government, community and commercial stakeholders, with ability to build trust and influence outcomes.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to prepare high-quality presentations and correspondence that are clear, compelling and audience-appropriate.
  5. High emotional intelligence, political acumen and sound judgment - able to read situations, handle sensitive matters with discretion, anticipate issues and provide trusted counsel to senior leaders.
  6. Collaborative leadership and organisational agility - works effectively across teams and hierarchies, builds productive relationships, drives outcomes through influence rather than authority, and embodies Tourism Tasmania's values of being connected, forward-thinking, authentically human and passionately committed.
