Job description:
To provide information to a range of stakeholders supporting the implementation of programs and activities to facilitate and expand the development of the private forest resource in Tasmania in a manner, which is consistent with sound forest, land management practice.
Promote private forestry within Tasmania and support private landowners with provision of information enabling them to sustainably manage their forests for forest products.

Duties:
- Coordinate the maintenance and upgrading of the Private Forest Resource Inventory, and, of surveys and assessments to monitor forests and forest operations on private land and determine forest owner attitude and needs.
- Evaluate and recommend land for Private Timber Reserves in accordance with the Forest Practices Act, on behalf of the Forest Practices Board.
- Administer application process for private forest timber reserves in accordance with the Forest Practices Act, on behalf of the Forest Practices Board.
- Provide information, assistance, training and education to stakeholders, clients, Agency staff and the public on matters relating to sustainable forest management on private land, for both native forest management and the development and management of plantations.
- Prepare and conduct educational activities individually or in conjunction/consultation with other organisations to promote a commercially viable private forest sector.
- Facilitate the development and growth of an effective, efficient private forest sector, through co-operation with service providers, consultants and the investment forestry sector.
- Identify practices that may impact long term sustainability of the private forest resource and recommend and implementing appropriate remedial action.
- Proactively engage with Government agencies, stakeholders and other organisations to promote the development of private forestry.
Essential Requirements
Evidence of the following must be provided prior to appointment to this role:
- Satisfactory completion of a tertiary degree in a related field.
- At least 10 years’ experience in forestry or a related field.
The person must continue to satisfy the above essential requirements/qualifications throughout their employment in this role.
Desirable Requirements
- Current Drivers Licence
- A current or has the ability to achieve an appointment as a Warranted Forest Practices Officer (Planning) under the Forest Practices Act 1985.
