Job description:

Work on complex economic and regulatory issues that matter to Tasmania. Join the Tasmanian Economic Regulator and use your analytical, economic, financial and communication skills to help shape the regulation of Tasmania's essential services. You will take a lead role in complex regulatory projects across Tasmania's water and sewerage, electricity and gas sectors, providing high-quality analysis and advice on pricing, industry performance and other regulatory issues. This is an opportunity to join a small, specialist team where you will have considerable autonomy, work directly with senior decision-makers and stakeholders, and see the impact of your work.
  • Work on issues that matter – contribute to regulatory decisions affecting essential services used by Tasmanian households and businesses.
  • Solve complex problems – apply economic, financial and analytical thinking to challenging regulatory and pricing issues.
  • Make an impact – take ownership of significant projects and provide advice that informs regulatory decisions.
  • Broaden your experience – work across Tasmania's water and sewerage, electricity and gas sectors and engage with government, industry, stakeholders and other regulators.
  • Join a specialist team – work in a collaborative environment where you'll have considerable autonomy and the opportunity to develop and share your expertise.

About You

Treasury is looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems and taking a lead on challenging work to join the Office of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator.

You will be able to work through detailed economic, financial or regulatory issues, exercise sound judgement and turn analysis into clear and practical advice. You will have the opportunity to lead projects and pieces of work, provide guidance to others and help drive work towards practical outcomes. Just as importantly, you will be able to explain complex concepts to people with different levels of technical knowledge and build constructive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

You may already have experience in economic regulation, but this isn't the only path to the role. Relevant experience could come from economics, finance, accounting, policy, consulting, infrastructure, utilities or another analytic environment.

If you enjoy asking difficult questions, working collaboratively to solve challenging problems and turning complex information into practical solutions, we are interested in hearing from you.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of applicants and provide flexible, hybrid working options in most roles. We want our employees to reach their full potential which is why we make reasonable adjustments to our recruitment process to enable applicants with disability, illness and injury to fully participate. Please notify us if you require any support or adjustments during the recruitment process to enable your full participation.
