This is a Department built entirely for children and young people and their communities. Our ultimate goal is to work together to ensure that every child and young person in Tasmania is known, safe, well and learning.
The child is at the centre of everything we do and the way we do it.
What we're offering
- We are a child-safe organisation
- Pathways to grow your career
About the Role
As Principal Policy Analyst, you'll lead the design and implementation of statewide initiatives that open learning pathways for students.
Your work will directly influence:
- Vocational learning and hands-on industry experiences for students in secondary school.
- School-to-work transitions and employer partnerships
- Strategic programs supporting young people's career, work, and life planning
- System-wide approaches to improve retention and attainment across Tasmania
You'll have room to think, to question, to design, and to build. You'll also have responsibility: shaping ministerial advice, guiding cross-sector implementation, and helping senior leaders make informed, future-focused decisions.
What You'll Bring
You don't need to tick every box. We're most interested in people who:
- Think system-wide while staying grounded in real-world delivery
- Write clearly, persuasively, and in plain English
- Turn policy intent into operational reality
- Work effectively with diverse partners - school leaders, teachers, industry, government
- Believe every young person deserves real, tangible post-school options
This role is demanding. You'll juggle competing priorities, deliver under tight timeframes, and navigate complex stakeholder environments. It requires someone who can shift from strategic thinking to tactical problem-solving, who cares about student outcomes, and who finds energy in making policy work on the ground.
If you’re excited by connecting policy with programs that make a difference for young people - this is where it happens.
