Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position will work within the Waisman Biomanufacturing (WB) work unit. WB is a clinical
manufacturing facility that produces biologics (gene therapeutics, recombinant proteins, plasmids, viruses, vaccines, and cell therapies) for Phase I and II Human Clinical Trials in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines.

WB's Quality Control (QC) Scientists work with Manufacturing and Quality Assurance teams to test biopharmaceutical products and document results for in-process, release, and stability characterization. The QC Scientist will be responsible for running standard assays for product characterization and quality testing, shipping and outsourcing functions, reporting test results against specifications, and reviewing/verifying the work of teammates.

Education:

Preferred
Associate's Degree
An Associate's Degree in Biotechnology plus 3 years of experience is desired.

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
A Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Microbiology or a related field is highly preferred.

Qualifications:

The following is preferred:
- One to three years of experience working in a laboratory setting under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Experience in microbiological methods (cell enumeration and characterization, environmental monitoring, microbial isolate identification).
- Technical experience performing or using analytical methods including UV-Vis spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE and Western Blot, residual DNA and host cell protein assays, and PCR.
- Experience with laboratory equipment operation including pH meters, balances, and multi-mode plate readers and/or the flexibility and desire to learn operation of new equipment.
- Demonstrated successful experience coordinating components of projects including reporting team activities with good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with an enthusiastic, positive attitude, and excellent multi-tasking skills.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and in a fast-paced, client-oriented, team environment.
