The Department of Biochemistry, Nutrition and Health Promotion (BCHNHP) at Mississippi State University (MSU) seeks to fill a 9-month tenure-track position to begin January 2026. The successful candidate will hold a 70% appointment in teaching through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and a 30% appointment in research through the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in Nutrition; graduate programs include an MS in Nutrition, an MPH in Nutrition, a PhD in Nutrition, and a PhD in Functional Foods, Nutrition, and Health). In addition, the candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program in their area of expertise through scholarship, extramural funding, and mentoring graduate students. The successful candidate will also be involved in supporting accreditation standards in compliance with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for the MPH housed in BCHNHP, and assist with the MPH program’s recruitment, retention, and implementation efforts.

The project will focus on identifying and quantifying key sources of predictability—including climate modes of tropical variability such as the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO)—and leveraging statistical (e.g., Analog) and machine learning techniques (in particular neural networks), to develop subseasonal hurricane forecast models improve predictive models.
