Position Function:
Provides advisement for prospective and/or current students within a specified undergraduate academic department(s) or equivalent unit of a college. Assists students through career exploration, academic plans, class schedules, financial aid and other transition strategies. Assesses academic level and facilitates academic development toward degree completion. Attends to student inquires and resolves individual academic problems. Maintains appropriate files and records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Holistically assists and advises students within college/school policies and procedures, degree requirements, financial aid and scholarship parameters
2. Reviews and evaluates transcripts for transfer courses applicable as academic credit within a specified program
3. Timely processes forms such as (not limited to) add/drop, withdrawal requests, academic forgiveness, substitutions, petitions and appeals
4. Initiates and maintains files and student records
5. Collaborates with other organizational units to aid in resolution of academic problems
6. Educates students on college and university academic policies and procedures, class selection options, best practices during initial transition to college, and campus resources
7. Collects and monitors academic information (grade and attendance) to proactively engage with students and review academic progress throughout the semester, providing academic support and strategies (coaching) as needed
8. May coordinate with high school guidance counselors and community college advisors to setup initial advising meetings with incoming students
9. Recruits prospective students, prepares information packets in conjunction with university and college recruiting efforts
10. Participates in orientation sessions as well as other academic-related events for prospective students hosted by the university
11. Emphasizes career exploration conversations with students early during the college experience
12. Answers general questions by students and parents pertaining to financial aid and scholarships
13. May supervise lower graded staff and/or student employees, participate in trainings and interviews, and make recommendations for improved advising methods
14. May teach classes as instructor of record for freshman transition courses
15. Participates in professional development opportunities to continuously improve skills and strategies
16. Collaborates with academic units, including faculty, along with other campus units engaged in academic success
17. Use data and software platforms to assess, intervene, communicate, and document academic performance as well as student contact
18. Continuing education and training with innovation in professional advising, student success, career development, financial aid, and other areas critical to student engagement
19. May provide operational assistance to academic colleges and/or department
20. Performs other related duties as assigned
May supervise student employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and 1+ years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Level of appointment is commiserate upon education and years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or equivalent.

• Skills in the use of computers and related software applications.
• Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures.
• Ability to learn and apply new concepts.
• Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. 
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk. 
• No or very limited physical effort required.
