Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor, Department of Forestry, College of Forest Resources, Forest and Wildlife Research Center, Mississippi State University. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2025, but shall be no later than August 16, 2025. Responsibilities will include participation in the Department’s teaching, research, and service activities. The successful candidate will be expected to teach on-campus and distance-learning undergraduate and graduate courses including Spatial Technologies in Natural Resources Management, Remote Sensing Applications, GIS for Natural Resources Management, and a graduate course in the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop an extramurally funded research program in areas such as geospatial assessment of natural resources, precision forestry, or quantification of carbon storage and ecosystem services using passive (e.g., spectral reflectance) and/or active (e.g., LiDAR) sensors. Opportunities exist for research collaboration with the USDA Forest Service and other federal agencies, state agencies, forest industry, non-governmental organizations, forest landowners, and land and resource managers.

The ideal candidate must have a primary focus of asphalt paving and be willing and able to work with more than one construction material. A demonstrated history of accomplishments with asphalt paving is required. Experiences with concrete, stabilized soil, aggregates, polymers, and/or composites are desirable. The candidate is expected to work with undergraduate and graduate students in and out of the classroom and to engage students in application driven or applied construction and materials research that can be published in high quality venues.
Assistant Professor 011900 - Agricultural Science & Plant Protec Main Campus - Starkville, MS
This position is a 100% Extension appointment (tenure track) with Mississippi State University located on the Main Campus in Starkville, MS. The primary function of this position will be to develop, coordinate and implement applied research and Extension programs aimed at managing insect pests of ornamental plants, turfgrass, and forage grasses in Mississippi. The incumbent will work as part of a multidisciplinary team involved in applied research and Extension. In particular, the incumbent will conduct applied research on established and experimental technologies (insecticides, biological processes, etc.), practices that improve integrated pest management (IPM), and develop novel approaches to manage primary and secondary insect pests of ornamental plants, turfgrass, and forage grasses found in Mississippi and the mid-south. The incumbent will incorporate these and other research findings into the development of a statewide Extension program that meets the needs of commercial growers, homeowners, and other stakeholders utilizing appropriate technologies and delivery methods. The incumbent will develop and maintain close working relationships with growers and other stakeholders, including commodity groups, governmental and non-governmental agencies, plant protection industries, MSU Extension specialists, Extension agents, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) researchers and others, to ensure that their entomology research and Extension program is focused on the most pressing needs of stakeholders.
