Teaching responsibilities involve didactic teaching and clinical training of professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. Service responsibilities involve clinical case management, rotating emergency duty, and consultation with private practitioners. Clinical duties in the Small Animal Medicine service will be shared with four other faculty members. The service currently has three residents enrolled in an ACVIM-approved three-year combined residency and thesis-driven master’s program. Participation in the college’s continuing education and clinical research program is strongly encouraged, as is the development of a specific area of clinical and research focus and expertise. External grant acquisition and supervision of postgraduate degree students is encouraged and supported, and initial funding is available to support the development of research initiatives.

In addition, prior experience in the utilization of in vitro / ex vivo / in vivo cancer models for the development of experimental / translational cancer therapeutics, is a must. The postdoctoral research associate will contribute to an ONR sponsored research project that examines air-sea-wave processes that relate to momentum flux variability in the tropical cyclone environment. The successful candidate will conduct and analyze numerical sensitivity modeling experiments utilizing the Navy’s coupled tropical cyclone modeling system and other coupled modeling systems to verify against field observations to identify momentum exchange processes that influence tropical cyclone intensity change. The postdoc will be based at the Northern Gulf Institute at Mississippi State’s campus and have access to MSU High Performance Computing Collaboratory supercomputing servers to conduct experiments. Funding is available for 18 months with opportunity for extension. Funds for conference travel are included. Anticipated start date of June 1, 2025 with some flexibility.

Postdoctoral Associate 191001 - Northern Gulf Institute Miami, FL
The principal function of the postdoc is to contribute to configuring an Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC) water quality model for the South Florida region and use this model to simulate and analyze past and projected regional patterns, with a focus on net primary production and subsequent carbon transport and settlement rates in and out of Biscayne Bay. The outputs of the coastal model will be used to characterize climate change impacts on water quality and carbon transport in and out of the estuary. Addition to the modeling efforts, the position will also have the tasks of constructing literature reviews and providing carbon data input for NOAA databases. The postdoc will be based at the NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) in Miami, Florida. She/he will be part of a multidisciplinary team, which includes researchers at NOAA, Mississippi State University, University of Miami, University of South Florida, Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, and Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association.
