Position Summary:

The Business Librarian will serve as liaison to the faculty and students of the business, economics, and health professions programs, as well as support the students and curricula of the Crummer School of Business.  Under the direction of the Head of User Experience, the Business Librarian will participate in all aspects of public services in Olin Library. This position is a tenure track faculty position. The Business Librarian is expected to be appointed as an assistant professor. Librarians with faculty status at Rollins College are required to show a pattern of growth and development in librarianship, teaching, scholarship, and service that is expected to continue throughout their career at Rollins.  

Research Assistance and Librarianship

  • Provide in-person and virtual research assistance during scheduled hours at the Olin Library, including some evening and weekend hours.
  • Participate in collection development of the collection in all formats.
  • Provide research support by appointment for students and faculty in assigned departments.
  • Participate as part of the team that engages in daily work and special initiatives that enhance the support Olin Library provides to Rollins students and faculty.

Instruction

  • Provide information literacy instruction including library orientation, general undergraduate instruction (including, on occasion, credit bearing courses), upper division and subject-specific information instruction.
  • Develop innovative ways to enhance the information literacy of students using on-ground and online instruction and asynchronous online learning modules.
  • Incorporate the ACRL Framework for information literacy into instruction and research consultations.

Liaison

  • Develop relationships with faculty members in the business, economics, and health professions programs, and in the Crummer School of Business; assume the liaison role for undergraduate and graduate programs in business.
  • In-depth knowledge of academic and commercial business databases; knowledge of emerging trends and products in business-related library resources in all formats.
  • Partner with faculty on instruction and assignment design to improve student information literacy.
  • Work with the Head of Collections & Systems and faculty members to develop the collection in all formats; maintain a knowledge of emerging business resources.
  • Encourage communication between faculty and the library.
  • Seek innovative projects, services, and resources in partnership with faculty and students to improve library support and engage in outreach to the Rollins and wider communities.
  • In conjunction with other library departments, coordinate services and collections to meet the needs of the Rollins community.
  • Work with the Library Director to coordinate assessment and analysis of Olin Library collections and services.

Professional Development, Research, and Scholarship

  • Continued and growing membership and activity in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Continuing education in an appropriate area of Business librarianship.
  • Research and scholarship in academic librarianship or another appropriate discipline.

Education and Experience:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited library program is required.
  • Two to three years of experience at an academic library is required.
  • An undergraduate degree in economics or a business-related discipline is required.
  • Educational background or work experience that indicates an ability to develop online and other modes of service through emerging technologies is preferred.
  • Reference and instruction experience in business is preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and experience with information literacy instruction with groups and individuals.
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • An MBA or second masters in a business-related discipline is preferred.
  • Familiarity with data collection, analysis, and reporting is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact with the public and academic community effectively and courteously.
  • An outgoing, creative, and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • An appreciation for liberal arts education and the role of the library in a liberal arts institution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a learning management system, integrated library system, and electronic and web-based reference resources.
  • Ability to manage change in a rapidly developing library environment.
  • The potential to present, publish, or otherwise contribute to academic librarianship or another appropriate discipline.
