Position Summary:

The Business Librarian will serve as liaison to the undergraduate to business majors, as well as support the students and curricula of the Crummer School of Business.  Under the direction of the Head of User Experience, the Business Librarian will participate in all aspects of public services in Olin Library. This position is a tenure track faculty position. The Business Librarian is expected to be appointed as an assistant professor. Librarians with faculty status at Rollins College are expected to show a pattern of growth and development in librarianship, teaching, scholarship, and service that is expected to continue throughout their career at Rollins.  


  • Provide on-ground and virtual research assistance during scheduled hours at the Olin Library, including some evening and weekend hours.
  • Participate in collection development of the collection in all formats.
  • Provide research support by appointment for students and faculty in assigned departments and for assigned students in the Honors program.


  • Provide information literacy instruction including library orientation, general undergraduate instruction (including, on occasion, credit bearing courses), upper division and subject specific information literacy instruction.
  • Develop innovative ways to enhance the information literacy of students using on-ground and online instruction and asynchronous online learning modules.
  • Incorporate the ACRL Framework for information literacy into instruction and research consultations.


  • Develop relationships with faculty members in the business, economics, and health professions programs, and in the Crummer School of Business; assume the liaison role for undergraduate and graduate programs in business.
  • In-depth knowledge of academic and commercial business databases; knowledge of emerging trends and products in business-related library resources in all formats.
  • Partner with faculty to improve student information literacy.
  • Work with the Head of Collections & Systems and faculty members to develop the collection in all formats; maintain a knowledge of emerging business resources.
  • Encourage communication between faculty and the library.
  • Seek innovative projects, services, and resources in partnership with faculty and students to improve library support.
  • In conjunction with other departments in the library, coordinate services and collections to meet the needs of the Rollins community.
  • In consultation with the Library Director, coordinate assessment and analysis of Olin Library collections and services.

Professional Development, Research, and Scholarship

  • Continued and growing membership and activity in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Continuing education in an appropriate area of Business librarianship.
  • Research and scholarship in academic librarianship or another appropriate discipline.

Education and Experience:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited library program is required.
  • At least three years of experience at an academic library is required.
  • An undergraduate degree in a business discipline is required.
  • Educational background or work experience that indicates an ability to maintain the library’s web presence and develop our online services through emerging technologies is preferred.
  • Reference and instruction experience in business is preferred.
  • An MBA or second masters in a business-related discipline is preferred.
  • Familiarity with data collection, analysis, and reporting is preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and experience with information literacy instruction with groups and individuals.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing; in various media.
  • Ability to interact with the public and academic community effectively and courteously.
  • An outgoing, creative, and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • An appreciation for the liberal arts and the role of the library in higher education.
  • Skills in the use of a variety of computer software used in the library; demonstrated knowledge and experience with a learning management system, integrated library system, and electronic and web-based reference resources.
  • Ability to deal with and lead change in a rapidly developing library environment.
  • The potential to present, publish, or otherwise contribute to academic librarianship or another appropriate discipline.
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours including some evenings and weekends.
