Position Summary:

The Rollins College Upward Bound Program (Pre-Collegiate) is seeking a high school teacher to teach various Spanish grade levels during the nine month academic component. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for teaching four to five college-prep Spanish classes, which may include IB and/or AP Spanish course. In collaboration with the Upward Bound program director and assistant director, the Upward Bound Spanish teacher assists the program participants with their academic development and success.

** Note: Though we are seeking a Spanish teacher, additional proficiency in French is favorable.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lesson planning and delivery
  • Assisting students with learning strategies in the content area
  • Assisting with student content level projects
  • Assisting with the supervision of students
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Upward Bound is a campus-based college-preparatory program assisting 75 college-bound high school students from Orange County. Our students are motivated learners from socioeconomic backgrounds considered statistically less likely to complete a four-year degree. They range from general level to honors to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree and state certification required.
  • Must be able to employ traditional and non-traditional methods of instruction and promote innovative learning approaches, including the use of technological tools and the use of high school level Advance Placement and International Bachelorette curriculum.

Level 2 Background Screening Requirement

Once an offer of employment is made, the candidate must pass a Florida Level 2 Background Screening prior to their start date. The cost of the fingerprinting is the responsibility of the candidate. The cost is approximately $68.00+ and payment is collected when the appointment is scheduled.

Instructors cannot start working until all background screening results are returned and cleared or until they have received an approved exemption.

  • Two Saturdays per month from December 2018 through May 2019 = Dec. 1, 15; Jan. 12, 19; Feb. 2, 16; March 2, 9; April 6, 20; May 11, 18.
