Position Summary:

The Office of Community Standards & Responsibility strives for a fair and just community by promoting student responsibility, accountability, and ethical decision making. We seek to facilitate individual awareness and assist students in actively engaging as responsible members of their various communities.

Essential job functions include:

  • Serve as a conduct educator to adjudicate alleged violations of College policy.
  • Educate students about the Code of Community Standards.
  • Ensure that students have the opportunity to become familiar with the Code of Community Standards through orientation and presentation efforts.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, thorough records for all educational conferences and hearings in compliance with best practices and federal laws.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure student success through the conduct process.
  • Attend weekly Community Standards & Responsibility staff and one-on-one meetings.
  • Role model appropriate behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director/Assistant Director of Community Standards & Responsibility.

Anticipated Employment Dates:
August 5, 2019 - May 22, 2020.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes: Ideally, the incumbent’s graduate program of study should be relatable to the experience provided through the assistantship. The goal is to provide an experiential learning opportunity that is aligned with the educational program of study. The student will be able to gain an understanding for the philosophy/importance of student conduct within higher education, navigate difficult situations and conversations, and develop transferable skills for future use.


  1. Bi-weekly pay rate of $12.50/hr. over the academic semester
  2. $500 for conference travel

Work Location, Supervision, and Work Hours Information:

  • The Office of Community Standards & Responsibility working environment is an office of community/field environment that requires visual strain/use of computer.
  • The incumbent reports to the Assistant Director of Community Standards & Responsibility.
  • The incumbent must be available to work 20 hours per week. Primary business hours are M-F 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and this position works primarily within normal business hours; however, some flexibility is required.

This position is designed for a graduate student who has demonstrated exceptional responsibility, leadership, and interpersonal skills with an interest in learning about higher education and student conduct. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated critical thinker who has a passion for working with students.

Education Requirement:

The incumbent must be actively enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program in order to qualify for this assistantship and must remain actively enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program for the duration of their employment in the position. This assistantship is intended for currently enrolled graduate students or individuals whose enrollment into a graduate degree program is imminent (e.g. student has been accepted into a graduate degree program and is awaiting the start of classes in the immediate future). Incumbent should be seeking an experiential opportunity in their degree field which may or may not be a requirement for graduation.
