Position Summary:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monday - Friday schedule (7:00am-3:00pm)
  • Performing, Assigning, Directing, and inspecting the work of other carpenters, including answering questions and resolving problems related to the department.
  • Training apprentices, helpers, and carpenters in the duties of the trade
  • Ordering parts and materials for procurement of lumber, supplies, and materials.
  • Maintaining carpentry areas in a neat an orderly fashion
  • Planning, performing routine maintenance, preparing, and coordinating all College carpentry projects which may include the following:
    • Repairing or renovating of office space
    • Building/manufacturing tools or equipment such as jigs as needed for ease of   operation
    • Repairing and constructing work in renovation of buildings, including roof repair, and replacing windows and doors, building walls and partitions including
    • drywall installation.
      Building and repairing cabinets and furniture
    • Installing and repairing wood and tile flooring
    • Digging
    • Assist with event staging set-ups
    • Hanging banners
  • Performing incidental repairs and maintenance such as replacing window glass, repairing screens, repairing or replacing window mechanisms, and other related work
  • Performing related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High school education plus one year of additional business, technical or college training or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Requires 4 to 6 years minimum of job related experience
  • A valid Florida driver’s license and acceptable MVR are required
  • Welding experience preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of carpentry techniques and procedures
  • Ability to supervise, direct, and train the work of apprentices, helpers, and other carpenters assigning duties on a daily priority basis
  • Ability to use a computer for maintenance requests and email
  • Ability to perform strenuous work, including heavy lifting up to 50lbs
  • Ability to use hand and power shop tools
  • Ability to prepare/interpret and follow verbal and written instructions and diagrams
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades, wearing of proper PPE
  • Ability to use one man and Ariel lifts wearing a harness
  • Ability to use and climb ladders
  • Work requires physical strain including bending, lifting and standing for long periods of time
  • Overtime may be required as needed

*As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises. Maintenance positions will be required to carry on call phone 2-3 times per year for periods of 7 days. This includes Saturday from 7-3pm with the following Friday off if desired.
