Fiscal Officer

Position Summary

As a Fiscal Officer with WKAR, you will be responsible for the oversight of the fiscal operations of a moderately large and complex department. You will work closely with department administrators, leadership, staff, and students to provide accurate and timely processing related to supporting the core business of broadcast fiscal operations at WKAR.  This position is responsible for a wide-variety of fiscal, operational, and human resource functions.   

Essential Duties and Expectations: 

  • Serve as fiscal officer on all department, general fund, endowment, and research accounts for the organization 

  • Review, approve, audit all fiscal and human resource transactions 

  • Assist with creation and monitoring of annual budget 

  • Serve as pre and post award support on all grant activity 

  • Responsibilities related to monthly and annual reporting for internal and external purposes (CPB annual reporting, SAB/SAS reporting, etc.) 

  • Oversee capital asset management and assist with facility upgrades 

  • Oversee EEO activity including preparing and compiling annual report 

  • Manage and oversee temporary/on-call and student hiring  

  • Perform additional human resource tasks as needed (overtime/shift differentials adjustments, cost redistributions, etc.)

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or in a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience in a supervisory role; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Three years or more of related or expansive work experience in accounting policies and procedures  

  • Experience with EBS, SAP, MSU HR actions/transactions 

  • Experience with pre and post award grant support 

  • Proven experience with database management (e.g. Kuali Coeus, Kuali Financial Systems)  

  • Experience in use of analysis and reporting tools in Business Intelligence, Query Studio, OSP/CGA tools  

  • Strong technical skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office  

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Knowledge of human resource functions and activities 

  • Experience in broadcasting industry and public media 

  • Self-motivated, forward thinking  

  • Ability to collaborate across departments and with various stakeholders
