Position Summary

This position will serve as a backup to the finance manager and will be assigned as Fiscal Officer Delegate to assist with account reconciliation for all EHS accounts; approve department credit card purchases verifying purchasing standards have been met; review and approve spartan marketplace orders for business necessity and accounting string accuracy; approve travel expense reports to ensure compliance with University Travel standards; analyze and report on EHS expenses to perform cost accounting analysis on EHS services provided to revenue generating departments; Track and report on sub-account expenditures and set budgets for team expenditures in order to ensure University purchasing policies are followed; meet monthly to review budgets with teams and forecast team needs; accounts receivable-analyzes incinerator records, prepares invoices, follows up on delinquent payments; accounts payable-writes RFP's, negotiates with vendors, prepares requisitions, reconciles invoices with PO's, submits for payment, process change orders, handles disputes with vendors on any billing issues; assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures; serves on committees and project teams; manages capital and non-capital asset inventory; reconciles monthly expenditures; prepares financial statements for University reporting; audits vouchers and financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance to MSU Manual of Business Procedures. Provide backup HR support including; payroll approval, position change of status approval, reclassification requests, job description review, onboarding new employees, and process HR paperwork. EHS is a small, friendly, and collaborative department; each person has their own specific duties, but all share expertise and fill in for each other as necessary.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or in a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Detail Oriented, great communication skills, self-directed, and highly organized individual who works well in a team environment. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) including Kuali, SAP, BI, and Cognos. Knowledge of MSU policies and procedures.
