Position Summary
Prepare, cook, and plate assorted food items for Kellogg Center banquet events, including entrees, vegetables, and starches; prepare salads, sandwiches, and desserts for the State Room restaurant; assists cooks with the preparation of various food items for banquet events as needed; obtains necessary ingredients for the preparation of assigned food items and replenishes food supplies; assists with training and leading all part-time team members in all food preparation and serving techniques; creates and completes food service prep lists for part time team members to ensure accurate and quality food production; oversees and assists with proper food handling techniques to ensure efficiency of Kellogg Center kitchen operations and eliminate waste and spoilage; cleans and maintains work areas and equipment to meet all MSU, State and Federal health guidelines. This position is located in the Kellogg Center.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If you have an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of your normally scheduled work hours remotely, you may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Minimum Requirements
- Working knowledge of quantity food preparation and serving techniques.
- One year satisfactory cooking experience in a large volume food service operation or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
- Willingness to work a flexible shift.
- Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations.
- Occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds is required.

Work Hours
6am-230pm Monday- Friday. Occasional holidays and weekend shifts as needed.
