Network Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Network Operations team is responsible for the installation and support of the network infrastructure for MSU Information Technology (MSU IT).

Reporting to the Network Planning Manager, the Network Operations Manager II will primarily be responsible for the following duties:

  • Overseeing a team of network engineers, including hiring, training, and performance management
  • Managing installation requests for network services
  • Leading network refresh projects, including equipment and cabling upgrades to enhance network performance
  • Collaborating with other IT teams to plan and execute network expansion and upgrade projects
  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for network architecture, configurations, and procedures
  • Working onsite in East Lansing at a minimum on Mondays and Thursdays
  • Serving as an escalation point during off-hours and non-business hours

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of project management experience
  • Previous supervisory experience in IT
  • A solid understanding of logical and physical networks, as well as related system technologies are essential.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, great oral & written communication abilities essential for consulting with customers, managing projects, conducting presentations, & tactfully handling sensitive situations
  • Effective interaction with end-users to gather the necessary information to diagnose, address, & document
  • Consistently negotiate deliverables & time frames with stakeholders, take ownership, & follow through on responsibilities
