Position Summary

The Family Communication and Relationships Lab in the Department of Communication at Michigan State University is seeking a full-time postdoctoral research associate to start August 15, 2024. The research associate will be appointed for one year (12-months), with the potential to renew for a second year based on successful performance. The postdoctoral research associate will be mentored by Dr. Elizabeth Dorrance Hall.

The postdoctoral research associate will join a vibrant research team comprised of faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will work on a National Science Foundation funded project to identify types of parent-child communication about STEM interests and careers. The goal of the project is to investigate how parental messages facilitate the resilience of girls and women from diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds in STEM career development.

The postdoctoral research associate will participate in all stages of the project including participant recruitment and retention, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, scholarly article writing, and planning, implementing, and evaluating educational outreach efforts based on the findings of the research. They will also engage in mentoring junior research team members. The candidate will be supported in pursuing the scientific aspects of the project that best contribute to the development of their own independent line of research. Required Degree

Doctorate -Communication or related field

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of a PhD in the past five years. The PhD should be attained by the start of the appointment.
  • A background in interpersonal and/or family communication, STEM education, family studies, psychology, or related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with mixed-method (quantitative and qualitative) data analysis.
  • Experience recruiting and conducting research with Black and Hispanic participants.
