Position Summary

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES – RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adjust and provide repair and maintenance service to kitchen and bakery equipment such as garbage disposals, dish machines, conveyors, steam tables, and small appliances.
  • Adjust, repair, and rebuild ovens, grills, time clocks, dish machines, and related kitchen systems.
  • Connect equipment to utility supply outlets, waste lines, and ductwork.
  • Diagnose electrical malfunctions on motors, fans, compressors, using test lights, ohmmeters, voltmeters, circuit stimulators, and wiring diagrams.
  • Adjust, service, and replace worn and defective electrical and mechanical parts of food preparation and dispensing equipment and motors.
  • Assist in the operation of an equipment repair shop.
  • Test run equipment after making repairs, adjustments, and part replacements.
  • Operate a service vehicle when responding to service call requests.
  • Assist in requisitioning parts and supplies and in maintaining accurate repair and replacement records.
  • Deliver, retrieve, and maintain residence halls party and training equipment.

Perform related duties as assigned including, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Tighten and replace belts in fans and motors.
  • Deliver and distribute student meal cards and menus to residence halls.
  • Cut and bend pipe and tubing.
  • Assist with welding.
  • Clean, adjust, and repair automatic controls, pilot lights, and flex tubes.
  • Adjust thermostats on appliances.
  • Replace light bulbs, fuses, and make minor electrical repairs and replacements.

 

RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS

Supervision is received from a Maintainer Food Equipment II or a designated supervisor.

 

All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Working knowledge of repair methods, equipment, and tools used in kitchen, bakery, and refrigeration maintenance and repair is necessary.
  • Two years satisfactory experience as a Maintenance Worker I or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience is necessary.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in the event of a major breakdown is necessary.
  • Frequent lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
  • Require valid driver's license at time of hire.
