Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
The Automated Analysis of Constructed Response research group is hiring a part-time, temporary research aide interested in applying methods from artificial intelligence to science education. Our research group applies machine learning and text analysis to student writing in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses to uncover student ideas and ways of thinking.
We are looking for a research aide to help develop, code and deploy machine learning applications for text classification and predictive analytics using quantitative methods. One task is to identify and test machine learning approaches to improve text and image classification models. For this, candidates should have experience in applying algebraic theory to develop and train machine learning models to solve systems of linear equations, eigenvalue problems, and optimization tasks. Also, applicants should be able to use knowledge of linear algebra, including matrices and vector spaces, to represent and manipulate data to develop Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) for machine learning.
Desired Qualifications
Applicants should have an academic background in computer science, mathematics or STEM education and demonstrated experience in various machine learning approaches (especially image recognition or text classification) and/or STEM education research. Previous experience with programming languages (especially python and R) is required. An established record of publications in using machine learning in STEM education research is preferred.
