Position Summary

The MSU Department of Radiology is seeking a Botanical Technologist I to aid in the maintenance of the Radiology Healing Gardens, including plant, pond, greenhouse, and interiorscape maintenance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Year-round maintenance of gardens, including weeding, mulching, watering, and removing leaves, debris, snow, pests, and dry/dead grasses; watering and tending to plants in greenhouse and interiorscape; utilizing equipment such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers, trimmers, and edgers for garden maintenance
  • Pond maintenance, including pump/heater maintenance, scrubbing pond walls and waterfalls, cleaning pond filters, feeding fish, and maintaining pond plants
  • Training and supervising student employees
  • Assisting with coordinating outside vendors and interact with community members and garden visitors
  • Assisting with ordering and picking up supplies and materials required for the garden's operation 

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Botany or Horticulture; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in botanical gardening, pest control and plant identification; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and an Ornamental and Turf Pesticide Applicators Certificate.
