Senior Financial Analyst

Position Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst reports directly to the Associate Dean of Faculty and Administration and works under the guidance of the Budget Director. This role involves collaborating with college leadership, departments and teams to support the college’s financial reporting, planning, and budgeting processes. This role requires preparing key financial reports, analyses, and coordinating with units to ensure compliance with university and college policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 40% - Assists in the development and management of the college’s financial reporting and planning processes, including the mid-year and annual budgets, forecasts, overdrawn accounts, Revenue-Based Initiative (RBI) programs, and other financial activities. Coordinates with units, reviews unit reports, and identifies areas for improvements. Prepares and develops various financial and managerial reports by performing detailed and complex financial and cost analyses.
  • 20% - Maintains the college’s charts of accounts. Assumes fiscal officer’s responsibilities for assigned accounts, processing and approving transactions in various university systems (e.g., financial, HR, and travel systems etc.). Develops and manages budgets and forecasts for assigned accounts, producing financial reports and analyses to ensure proper fund allocation and compliance.
  • 15% - Provides training and support to unit fiscal officers on budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, utilizing university tools, resources, and guidelines from the university and college. Serves as a resource for units in developing their reports.
  • 15% - Serves as the fiscal officer during staff transitions and coordinates with HR office to ensure the continuity of fiscal operations and financial reporting.
  • 5% - Prepares financial and labor cost reports for the AACSB annual surveys and contributes to the re-accreditation process, specifically related to finance module.
  • 5% - Acts as the college’s Security Officer for Spartan Financial Navigator and serve as the backup Security Officer for general financial system access. Manages and executes special projects assigned by the Associate Dean and Budget Director.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting or Finance; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in professional financial statement preparation including cost accounting or auditing or registration as a Certified Public Accountant; require experience in word processing, office management, spreadsheet, and accounting software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in MSU systems such as EBS and Spartan Financial Navigator
  • 3 years of financial analyst experience with complex budgeting processes, including:
    • Mid-year and annual budget planning
    • Forecasting
    • Overdrawn accounts
    • Reporting
    • Compliance
