Position Summary

The Data Architect in the College of Nursing at Michigan State University will design, implement, analyze, interpret, and validate data reports to make recommendations to the administration on short- and long-term planning and decision-making. Additional duties will be to develop, maintain, manage, and use databases composed of a variety of data types as well as engage in data cleaning and processing. This position will also develop metadata. The Data Architect will also implement data analysis, data collection systems, and other strategies to increase statistical efficiency and data quality and implement data visualizations to assist with the dissemination of knowledge.

In addition to the above, this position will assist with the development of inclusive long- and short-range strategic plans to track and trend college educational, research, and clinical performance on several different metrics. The Data Architect will provide integration of new and existing systems and identify software, hardware, or other equipment problems and solutions. Applying a high degree of competence, knowledge, cultural awareness, and creativity to resolving major systems-level problems and generate innovative technology-driven solutions will also be a responsibility of this role. The Data Architect will collaborate with other college units in the selection and set-up of applications suitable to their needs and assigned workflow. Participating with the information technology team to empower equitable interventions, analysis, recommendation, preparation, and implementation of hardware, operating systems, and networks will be expected. This position will adhere to project implementation and reporting deadlines. 

The use queries for data retrieval and compilation and create data reports and visualizations with tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Excel will be expected. The Data Architect will employ coding skills to automate processes and clean data, while also constructing data pipelines to ensure consistent data reporting. This position will also interact with IT support for consulting on security measures concerning data governed by FERPA and university regulations, ensuring compliance and safeguarding sensitive information.  Additional responsibilities will include interacting with various stakeholders within the college to gather understanding and buy-in for project needs and deliver results in a secure manner. This position may work 100% from home, permitted anywhere in the United States.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related IT field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in statistical methods or data management and analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

 

Desired Qualifications

Three or more years of relevant data warehouse and analytics development experience, plus related technical experience, demonstrated through:

Possessing a high level of technical expertise in one or more of the following technologies:

Oracle database student information system

Power BI

Tableau

Microsoft Visual Studio

TSQL, MS SQL Server, and SQL Server Reporting Services

Oracle (MSU Data Warehouse)

C#

Microsoft IIS

Cognos

 

Processing a solid understanding of the nursing education processes, college and university technology and practices, functions, and architectures.

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines without compromising close attention to detail and accuracy.
