Position Summary
For Fall Semester 2025
Teach MUS 484: Instrumentation and Basic Orchestration - This is the first in a sequence of two undergraduate courses devoted to instrumentation and orchestration. The course provides an in-depth introduction to acoustic music technology as it relates to the craft of writing for instruments found in the symphony orchestra and wind symphony. Scoring assignments devoted to standard chamber ensembles are regularly read and workshopped in class, providing students hands-on experience. The course also explores the history of these instruments and provides an overview of the history of orchestration and the orchestra as a social institution.
Teach MUS283, MUS483, MUS880 - Applied composition - Applied lessons in music composition are tailored to each student's individual creative personality, strengths and needs. Student will meet with the instructor weekly throughout the semester for private composition lessons

Minimum Requirements
Experience teaching applied music composition to majors and/or non-majors at the BM and MM level; composing and/or arranging for standard chamber ensembles such as string quartet, woodwind quintet, brass quintet, and mixed ensembles; experience composing and/or arranging for symphony orchestra and/or wind symphony; knowledge of the available textbooks and on-line resources on the course subjects. Ability and agency to recruit student ensembles who can commit to workshopping students’ scoring assignments during the regular class period of MUS484.
