Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.

Unit Position Summary

To assist CMERC Center Coordinator with implementing several new field projects at Corey Marsh, including a seed bank study. The research technician will be responsible for assisting undergraduate students with implementation of their research projects, including wild rice, entomology, and habitat assessments.

 

Public engagement is a key part of CMERC’s mission; hence, the technician must be comfortable engaging with the public and sharing the basics of the research (as appropriate). Plant identification is a key part of the job, and the person must be able to identify most of the herbaceous mid-Michigan plants. Further, the person must have experience working with and mentoring undergraduate students. A reliable personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance are required. Hiring is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen through Michigan State University.

Desired Qualifications

Plant identification skills for all mid-Michigan plants, but primarily herbaceous plants.

Plant collection and preservation skills.

Experience working with and mentoring undergraduate students in STEM related activities.

Previous positions working in field-based settings on natural resource focused projects.
