Position Summary
The Communications Manager will work with the University Health and Wellbeing communications and health promotion team to promote and protect department reputation. Develop and execute health promoting communication strategies, campaigns, publications, and other materials for Health Promotion and Engagement campaigns, programs, services, initiatives, and events. This includes, but not limited to, the MSU Student Food Bank, Sexual Wellness, WorkLife Wellbeing, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Collegiate Recovery Community, SPARTANfit, and Spartan Resilience Education.
Conduct research, interviews, and gather information to create, edit, and produce a range of communication materials, including news releases, social media posts, newsletters, emails, talking points, promotional pieces, reports, etc., for both print and electronic media, targeting specific audiences. Partner with communication colleagues to guide development of audio, videos, graphics, etc., ensuring accessibility, content accuracy, readability, and alignment with established style guidelines.
Stay informed about news and trends related to the field, monitoring various publications and electronic sources for information relevant to the department's activities. Occasionally represent UHW and/or present to targeted audiences at events, professional organizations, industry gatherings, and community functions to enhance the unit's visibility and engagement.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in health or public health communications preferred, health education experience or experience as a communicator in public health, health promotion, or healthcare.

Special Instructions
This position will be onsite in east Lansing 3 days per week; remote work is provided a maximum of 2 nonconsecutive days per week.
