Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The Global Neuropsychiatry Research Center is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate or master’s-level student for a part-time summer research internship. This is a temporary position ideal for a student interested in gaining hands-on experience in neuropsychiatric research, data analysis, and scientific communication. The intern will directly support active manuscript development and help manage outputs from pooled analyses of neurodevelopmental and mental health outcomes among children and adults affected by HIV.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Update shell tables and figures with finalized data from pooled and harmonized datasets spanning three NIH-funded/foundation-supported cohort studies).
  • Use SAS to assist in the generation and revision of analytic tables
  • Provide manuscript writing support, including table/figure formatting and as able basic drafting of results sections.
  • Provide support with manuscript submission for peer-review in biomedical journals.
  • Assist with the development of research posters and visual materials for scientific dissemination.

Project Topics May Include:

  1. Trauma, psychosocial adversity, and mental health outcomes in adults living with HIV and demographically matched controls.
  2. Longitudinal cognitive outcomes among perinatally HIV-exposed but uninfected (CHEU) children and adolescents.
  3. Scholastic achievement and educational trajectories among CHEU populations.
  4. Quality of life and mental health outcomes in HIV-affected/unaffected dependents children during school age and adolescent years of life.
  5. Age-related patterns of cortical and cognitive impairment among persons with and without HIV.

Desired Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in data science
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of SAS and SQL.
  • Familiarity with creating scientific tables, figures, and posters.
  • Demonstrated interest in health disparities, global health, or neurodevelopmental research
