Position Summary

Oversee the daily operations of comprehensive and innovative Intramural Sports programming for Michigan State University (MSU) Recreational Sports & Fitness Services (RSFS), ensuring compliance with the institutional policies and risk management procedures; assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and guidelines for Intramural Sports programs; manage and support approximately 8,200 Intramural Sports athletes for 27 Intramural Sports activities, scheduling all games and events; collaborate and communicate with other campus departments to coordinate and enhance Intramural programs and events; provide oversight of daily business transactions and deposits for Intramural Sports and manage/input data for all Intramural Leagues on the IM Leagues website; communicate with RSFS staff and Intramural Sports participants regarding all Intramural events in RSFS facilities, responding to questions and concerns to resolve any issues in a timely and professional manner; facilitate all Intramural participant ejection/disciplinary meetings to ensure appropriate resolution, following MSU and RSFS guidelines; manage and reconcile all Transact payments for IM Sports participants, issue forfeit deposit refunds, and complete Pcard transactions following all MSU and RHS policies and procedures; evaluate equipment needs for Intramural programs and purchase necessary equipment for programmatic functions; create and manage the budget for all Intramural Sport programs and Outdoor Field operations; oversee and manage Outdoor Field usage schedule for various activities and programs, including coordinating with external groups; partner with Landscape Services to oversee all RSFS Outdoor Field maintenance, including developing off season repair plans, identifying areas of focus, and mapping out in-season use patterns; recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop RSFS student employees, including approximately three (3) student coordinators, 23 student supervisors, and 200+ sports officials; oversee and approve all payroll for student team members; lead and oversee the official’s development and training programs for all Intramural Sports staff, including risk management and emergency action planning; ensure adherence to safety regulations and standards within all facilities, including emergency procedures; address customer concerns to promote positive interactions with facility users; promote and publicize unit programs and achievements in conjunction with the RSFS Marketing team and the ASG Communications Manager; support the efforts of department-wide initiatives, processes, and procedures. Review matters relating to fees, supervision, budget, fiscal, and programs with the Associate Director; work closely with other RSFS areas to create collaborative programs and any other business matters as needed; compile information and data for monthly, mid-year, and annual reports as needed; participate in the development of programs, departmental objectives, and long-range planning by performing research, providing recommendations, and implementing plans as needed; serve on department, divisional, University, and extramural committees or work teams as assigned; develop policies and procedures related to the evaluation of unit facilities and equipment as needed; document and provide facility usage information as needed; enforce and maintain RSFS policies and procedures as they pertain to the usage of RSFS facilities. 

All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency conditions, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years post-Bachelor's degree work, such as a Master's degree in Business Administration, Parks & Recreation, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health & Physical Education, or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in officiating sports, scheduling and organizing events, mediating grievances and training and supervising large staffs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Parks & Recreation, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health & Physical Education, or related field; three to five years’ experience in Intramural Sports, campus recreation, athletic administration, or facility management, First Aid/CPR and AED certification; experience training Intramural Sports staff; strong communication skills. 

Responsible or expansive work experience in Intramural Sports, campus recreation, athletic administration, or facility management.
