Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The avian technician will primarily be responsible for the acquisition and installation of songbird nestboxes. The technician will need to correspond with farmers, meet with them about nestbox placement, and install nestboxes. The hired person must be able to drive up to 2 hours to farms, which are distributed between Grand Rapids and Detroit. There could be other job duties such as data entry and proofing or assistance with sample collection.

Desired Qualifications

· Prior experience checking nestboxes

· Expertise in songbird nestboxes, including how to build and place them to promote beneficial species and discourage harmful ones

· Ability to effectively establish and maintain relationships with farmers

· Experience using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Teams

· Ability to work effectively in a team

· Driver’s license and ability to operate a university vehicle

•Desired qualifications-

· At least five years of experience monitoring songbird nestboxes

· Expertise in songbirds that use bluebird nestboxes in Michigan

· Prior experience procuring large quantities of supplies
