Position Summary
The Online Food Safety Program (OFS) at Michigan State University is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Admissions Counselor to lead admissions efforts and support program operations and financial processes. This individual will serve as the central point of contact for prospective students and play a vital role in shaping a welcoming and engaging applicant experience. They will be expected to engage individuals effectively, build meaningful connections, and persuasively communicate the unique value of our program to inspire enrollment and foster student success.

They thrive in fast-paced environments, demonstrate sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and bring creative solutions to complex challenges. In addition to coordinating admissions, this individual will support the daily operations of the program by working collaboratively with the Program Director and Communications/Marketing Manager on financial processes, recruitment initiatives and event coordination. They will also collaborate with the program’s Academic Advisor as needed to support students as they matriculate and progress through the program.

Responsibilities
Graduate Admissions & Recruitment
- Serve as the primary contact for prospective students to communicate the unique value of our program to inspire enrollment.
- Guide prospective students through the admissions process.
- Provide timely and professional communication with applicants.
- Coordinate application review logistics and maintain accurate records in Slate and Campus Solutions.
- Represent the program at recruitment events and collaborate on outreach strategies.
- Develop and update student handbooks and admissions materials.
- Produce reports and analyze data to support admissions decisions.
Program Operations & Financial Support
- Assist the Director with managing the financial portfolio of the program.
- Reconcile accounts and coordinate payments.
- Purchase office supplies and manage vendor relationships.
- Oversee purchases of the program’s online continuing education offering
- Support day-to-day administrative operations and contribute to process improvements.
Hybrid Work
This position offers a hybrid work model, allowing for a combination of in-person and remote work based on mutual agreement with the supervisor and aligned with job responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree in counseling, psychology, education, or related fields; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in admissions, counseling, public relations, student services or related area, including implementing programs and schedules, making formal presentations, and working with the public; experience with database, spreadsheet, desk top publishing and/or presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail, initiative, and adaptability.
- Demonstrated professionalism and discretion.
