Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
This position will staff the Tall Timber Exhibition to be housed in Detroit, Michigan. Open and close the exhibit space each day. Staff an information desk in the exhibit space and provide guests with verbal and pre-printed information about the exhibit, its contents, and MassTimber@MSU. Communicate with guests to prevent touching/damaging exhibition items. Tidy the space at the beginning/end of each day. Communicate with MassTimber@MSU staff about inventory of supplies and printed material; maintenance needs; guest questions/concerns. Meet and orient guest exhibitors to the space. Help staff some special events. Other duties as assigned. Training will be provided. Parking near the work location during work hours will be provided.
Desired Qualifications
•A high-school diploma or GED is required
•Excellent interpersonal communications skills required
•Demonstrated record of reliability and working independently is required
•An associate’s or bachelor’s degree, or current enrollment in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program is preferred
•1-2 years of customer service experience preferred
•An interest in any one, or combination, of the following topics is preferred: mass timber, architecture, construction, engineering, forestry, forest products, climate change, sustainability, community or real estate development
