Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Position Overview

Sparty, Michigan State University’s beloved mascot, is more than a campus icon. He’s a symbol of Spartan pride, energy, and tradition. The MSU Alumni Office is seeking a creative and motivated Social Media Content Creator to help share Sparty’s presence with the world. This part-time position plays a key role in growing Sparty’s digital presence and engaging Spartan fans across the globe through compelling photography and video content.

Key Responsibilities

• Capture high-quality photos and video of Sparty at appearances, including campus events, athletic games, community gatherings, and special occasions
• Edit and produce engaging video and photo content tailored for social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and X
• Develop content that aligns with Sparty’s voice and personality while increasing reach, engagement, and follower growth
• Assist in planning and executing creative social media campaigns and seasonal content strategies
• Coordinate with the Sparty Mascot Program Director to ensure content supports program goals and scheduling needs
• Occasionally attend events during evenings or weekends, as needed

Desired Qualifications

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in videography, photography, and editing for social media
• Ability to shoot and edit both video and photo content for use on social media and other digital platforms
• Demonstrated experience in videography, photography, and editing for social media
• Proficiency with editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Lightroom, or similar platforms
• Knowledge of current social media trends, especially short-form video (e.g., Reels, TikTok)
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and respond quickly to changing needs
• Creative mindset with strong visual storytelling skills
• Interest in higher education, MSU spirit, or mascot culture is a plus
